Keith's Gator Aides

One of the navi"gator"s responsibilities during a CDE is to help the driver stay on time during Section A and Section E of the marathon. We use these charts which have the "window" between Minimum and Maximum times prorated for each kilometer. This gives a relatively accurate indication as you go along of whether you are on pace (between the numbers), ahead of pace (too fast, below the minimum) or behind pace (too slow, above the maximum).
At the Event you will find out the measured distances of Sections
A & E and the Time Allowed in each.
For Section A: the Minimum time is 2 minutes less than Time Allowed.
For Section E: the Minimum time is 3 minutes less than Time Allowed.
There is no Minimum time for the walk.
Here is an example of how to determine the allowed time required
for a specific distance.
The formula is 60 / speed x distance = allowed time.
At a show where you are competing at the preliminary level with a horse, the
distances are 6.2 K for Section A, 0.95 K for Section D and 7.8 K for Section
E. For a horse at the preliminary level the speeds are 14 KPH for sections A
and E, and 6 KPH for section D
Section A: 60 / 14 x 6.2 = 26.5714 (minutes/ tenths of seconds), to get the
seconds multiply 0.5714 x 60 = 34 for an allowed time of 26:34 (minutes:seconds)
Section D: 60 / 6 x 0.95 = 9.50 (minutes/ tenths of seconds), to get the seconds
multiply 0.50 x 60 = 30 for an allowed time of 9:30 (minutes:seconds)
Section E: 60 / 14 x 7.8 = 33.4286 (minutes/ tenths of seconds), to get the
seconds multiply 0.4286 x 60 = 26 for an allowed time of 33:26 (minutes:seconds)
For your reference here are the per kilometer times, shown in
minutes:seconds, at the different speeds
at 15 KPH, 1k = 4:00
14 KPH = 4:17
13 KPH = 4:37
12 KPH = 5:00
9 KPH = 6:40
7 KPH = 8:34
6 KPH = 10:00
5 KPH = 12:00
How to select a chart:
1. Determine KPH required for your division
2. Pick Section A or Section E
3. Select distance
