More entries are needed but some have come in; program ads are good; Caldwell arena people said they would clean stalls by Friday

The Club agreed on the following:

-- ice chests, ice and water will be provided -- Sandra to coordinate

2. Sunday June 26 Pleasure Drive
The club will hold a pleasure drive at Betty Smith's on Sunday June 26. Drive-out time is 10 a.m. Pot luck lunch with the club providing the meat. Bring chairs and drinks. Directions: From Texas Highway 6, go east on OSR abut 20 miles. Left on FM 1940. Go about a mile. Left on FM 2446. Left on Shiloh Church Rd. (winding dirt road). Look for Betty's on the right. More details in a later e-mail.

3. Saturday July 9 Club Meeting and Pot Luck
The July club meeting will be held on a Saturday -- July 9 -- at the home of Ron and Judy Martens. It will be a pot luck lunch with the club providing the meat. As usual, bring chairs, drinks, and dish to share. As at previous meetings, driving is optional. There are trails on the property and quiet country roads. An e-mail with more details and directions will be sent to members a few days before.

4. Saturday August 20 Equestrian Market Day
This big event for buying, selling, and socializing is held annually at Louis Pearce Pavilion on George Bush Drive, College Station. Bernice has posters and wants people to take them to post at feed stores, tack shops, etc. and give to farriers.

5. Brazos Horse Committee report: Penny Thomas as the new representative on the committee was welcomed by the members. The Committee will have a table at Market Day. The word "Extension" will no longer be used in the horse committee's name. Information on the new Expo Center was presented. It is expected to be in use by 2007. Two covered arenas and pens are planned.

Not having done a newsletter in so long, I feel I should do a little something to bring club members news of your Brazos Valley Driving and Riding Club. Here is information from the last meeting with some additional information for those who are relatively new. Any errors herein are totally my fault. -- Vita.

At the meeting May 12, we discussed:
1. The club's ADT (Arena Driving Trial) and clinics (June 17-18).
2. Equestrian Market Day, to be held Saturday August 20
3. Pleasure drive at Betty Smith's (June 25 or 26? July 9 or 20?
4. Membership, meeting notices, e-mail
And we had the pleasure of meeting the delightful equestrian Frances Geghegan (but I can't find my notes so I don't know if I spelled her name correctly). Frances is taking care of the Garrett's Irish horses and dogs while Pat and Karen are in Ireland for the summer.

1. The ADT (Linda Yutzy): Information is on the texasdrivingclubs.com web site. Look in "events." The dressage patterns are the new ones from ADS (American Driving Society) and can be downloaded from the web site or from the ADS web site (if you can't download, contact Linda at linday@2infinity.com or call 281-373-4837. Linda said that volunteers are needed but she needed just one volunteer for sure right away -- a person to act as show secretary Saturday, checking people in, giving out packets, checking Coggins paper, etc., though most people come the day before. Vita Pariente agreed to do that. Linda said that at the North Texas Whip's ADT, whoever was around helped with set up and take down and measuring, etc. It worked out fine for them and she thinks it will work for us as well. She said it looks like Keith will be there Friday night. The question came up as to whether or not to have a program for the ADT, since Karen Garrett is not here to do it. Linda said she would put a program together if someone else would get the ads. Lynn still said that since she and Tammy Rose are on the committee, they would get ads. The program will have the schedule and layout of cones and obstacles.

General ADT Info: The ADT is Saturday, June 18; the clinics on Friday June 17. Place: Burleson County Saddle Club arena, same as last year. It is very easy to get to -- on FM 36 about a mile south of FM 21 in Caldwell. There is a good Mexican restaurant very nearby, a good place for kolaches and sandwiches, and also places for fast food and pizza. There is seating under cover at the arena: Spectators welcome and may be asked to help, which it turns out is a lot of fun. Clinics: Anyone can take a lesson from Mike McLennan, whether you have very little or a lot of driving experience. The cost is kept deliberately low to encourage those who are new to the sport.

FYI: For newcomers, Tom O'Carroll is having a Beginning Drivers' Clinic May 28. For those interested in ADT competition, Tom is having his 3rd annual Driving Days and ADT Practice Clinic June 4-5 www.tocarroll.com Contact Tom O'Carroll or Marlene Collins (936) 870-3052; cell phone (281) 731-5202

2. Equestrian Market Day: Saturday, August 20, Louis Pearce Pavilion, College Station. Tommy Groth distributed lists of places where attendees in previous years had learned about Market Day. She encouraged members to post flyers at similar places. Bernice Smith has the flyers and will be distributing them to members over the next couple of months. Come to the next meeting, June 16, and get your Market Day flyers. They will also be at the ADT the next day.

3. Pleasure Drive. Betty Smith has invited all to have a drive at her place any time. Just let her know. Two weekends that seem to be available between ADTS are June 25-26 and July 9-10. Lisa Robertson and Vita Pariente seem to the ones who are supposed to arrange this. We have had a couple of very good rides there although the last time we tried we were rained out. The location is out OSR, east of Hwy 6, and then in the direction of Franklin. The roads are sandy and there are trees so it is not totally sunbaked. Let your wishes be known. Reply to this email or contact Lisa rlegend@txcyber.com Phone Vita 979-690-0841, Lisa 979- 589-1573 or 979-589-1638.

4. Membership. Unfortunately, neither Jane Anderson nor Bernice Smith could be at the meeting. President Sandra Traweek suggested that the person who keeps the membership list must have e-mail and so she said would ask Bernice to take back the list and also to e-mail the current member list to those who do the membership directory (Tommy Groth), the e-mail notices (Vita Pariente), and the newsletter mailing (Judy Martens). This has been done and we have discovered that we missed some people.

Will there be another newsletter? I have been asked this by several of you and have no certain answer. I have claimed having been very busy as the reason for not doing a newsletter but there are other reasons. I have been having difficulty in sitting at the computer for the length of time it takes to put together a newsletter. I also have trouble seeing clearly, which is particularly a problem when it comes to copying e-mail addresses and phone numbers, which need to be accurate. My new computer may alleviate these problems to some degree in the short term. However, I can see the day coming when I will not be able to do a newsletter and so someone else will have to take those reins. If nothing else, after 5 or 6 years, I have to admit I am a bit burned out. And I want to spend more time with my ponies and with you at our driving activities.

This long email has been relatively pain-free so maybe I can do another newsletter.
